Peter Lloyd (politician)

Peter Lloyd (born November 9, 1937, died April 21, 2019) was a British Conservative politician. He served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Fareham from 1979 to 1997.

Lloyd was educated at Marlborough College and Pembroke College, Cambridge, where he studied law. He was called to the Bar at Gray's Inn in 1963.

Prior to entering Parliament, Lloyd worked as a barrister. He won the Fareham seat in the 1979 general election, succeeding Reginald Bennett. During his time in Parliament, he held several junior ministerial positions, including Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Home Office from 1987 to 1992, and Minister of State at the Home Office from 1992 to 1994. He also served as a Minister of State at the Department of Social Security from 1994 to 1997.

He lost his seat in the 1997 general election to Mark Hoban of the Labour Party. Following his defeat, he largely retired from public life.

Lloyd was married and had children. He was known for his reserved demeanor and commitment to his constituency.
