People's Movement (Lebanon)
The People's Movement (Arabic: حركة الشعب, Harakat al-Sha'b) is a Lebanese political party and component of the Lebanese National Movement. It is a left-wing, pan-Arabist political organization.
Founded in 1969, the People's Movement emerged from within the Arab Nationalist Movement. It played a significant role in the Lebanese Civil War, aligned with the leftist and Palestinian forces against the right-wing Christian militias.
Following the end of the Civil War, the party continued its political activities, participating in parliamentary elections and advocating for social justice, national unity, and resistance against Israeli occupation. It is considered a secular party with a focus on economic and social reforms to benefit marginalized communities. The People's Movement typically aligns with other left-wing and pan-Arabist parties in Lebanon. Its influence is primarily concentrated in certain areas of Lebanon, often those with a history of leftist activism. The party has been involved in various demonstrations and protests advocating for its political goals.
