Oviedo

Oviedo is the capital city of the Principality of Asturias in northern Spain. It is located approximately 24 kilometers (15 miles) inland from the Bay of Biscay.

History:

Oviedo's origins date back to the early 8th century. It was founded by monks Máximo and Fromestano. King Fruela I of Asturias moved the court to Oviedo, establishing it as the capital of the Kingdom of Asturias in 761 AD. The Asturian pre-Romanesque churches and monuments in and around Oviedo are recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
