Otway Falkiner

Otway Falkiner (born 28 February 1825, died 9 October 1895) was an Australian pastoralist and politician.

Falkiner was born in County Wicklow, Ireland, and emigrated to New South Wales, Australia, in 1839. He became a highly successful sheep breeder and pastoralist, establishing significant landholdings in the Riverina district of New South Wales. His properties included Boonoke Station, renowned for its merino sheep stud. He played a prominent role in the development of the Australian wool industry.

Falkiner also served as a Member of the New South Wales Legislative Council from 1888 until his death. He was a strong advocate for the interests of pastoralists and rural communities. He was involved in debates regarding land tenure, water conservation, and railway development in the Riverina.

He was married twice, first to Marion Eliza Hume Kennedy in 1851 and then to Clara Thornton Sadleir in 1873, having children with both wives.

Falkiner's legacy lies in his contribution to the expansion of the Australian wool industry and his advocacy for rural interests in New South Wales politics.
