Oded Tzur

Oded Tzur is an Israeli jazz saxophonist and composer. He is primarily known for his work on the tenor saxophone and his unique approach to jazz improvisation, often incorporating elements of Indian classical music and the raga system. Tzur has developed a distinctive sound characterized by its meditative quality, soaring melodies, and deep exploration of timbre and resonance.

Born in Israel, Tzur began playing saxophone at a young age. He studied classical music before gravitating towards jazz and eventually exploring Indian classical music under the guidance of various teachers. He has lived and worked in both India and New York City, and his music reflects the confluence of these diverse influences.

Tzur has released numerous albums under his own name, primarily on the ECM Records label. These recordings often feature his quartet, showcasing his compositions and improvisational skills alongside other prominent jazz musicians.
