Oberth (crater)
Oberth is a lunar impact crater that is located on the far side of the Moon. It lies to the west-southwest of the prominent crater Apollo, and northeast of the smaller crater Baldet.
The rim of Oberth is moderately eroded, with a number of small craters along the edge. The inner walls display some terracing, and there are accumulations of scree along the base. A small crater lies along the inner wall of the northeast rim. The interior floor is relatively level, with a small central peak. There are also a few tiny craterlets scattered across the floor.
Oberth's features are typical of lunar craters of its size and age, showing the effects of numerous impacts over billions of years. The crater is named after Hermann Oberth, a German physicist and engineer considered one of the founding fathers of rocketry and astronautics.
