Nuthe (Elbe)
The Nuthe is a river in Brandenburg, Germany, a left tributary of the Elbe.
Geography:
The Nuthe rises south of Jüterbog, flowing generally northwards through the Teltow plateau. Key towns and municipalities along its course include Luckenwalde, Trebbin, and finally Nuthetal, where it flows into the Elbe via the Teltow Canal. The confluence with the Elbe is located near Potsdam.
Hydrology:
The Nuthe is a relatively small river with a low flow rate. Its watershed is predominantly agricultural and forested. Water quality varies along its course, affected by agricultural runoff and urban development.
History:
The Nuthe's course and surrounding area have been shaped by human activity for centuries, including land reclamation and the construction of waterways. The Teltow Canal, which the Nuthe feeds into before reaching the Elbe, is a significant historical waterway connecting Berlin with the Elbe and Oder rivers.
