Northwestern League (1905–1917)
The Northwestern League was a Class B minor league baseball circuit that operated from 1905 to 1917. Its teams were primarily based in cities in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States and western Canada, including Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia.
The league's existence spanned thirteen seasons, during which time it provided a developmental ground for players aspiring to reach the major leagues. Several notable baseball figures passed through its ranks.
The composition of the league fluctuated throughout its history, with different cities and franchises participating in various years. Some of the more consistent and well-known teams included those based in Seattle, Tacoma, Spokane, and Vancouver.
The league ceased operations following the 1917 season, likely due in part to the impact of World War I on the availability of players and the overall economic climate. While it no longer exists, the Northwestern League holds a place in the history of minor league baseball and the development of the sport in the Pacific Northwest.
