North Hall (University of Wisconsin)

North Hall, located on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, is one of the oldest and most historically significant buildings at the university. Completed in 1851 and initially known as the "Female College," it served as the first women's dormitory on campus. Designed in a Greek Revival style, North Hall has undergone several renovations throughout its history but retains many of its original architectural features.

Over the years, North Hall has housed various departments and programs, including the Department of History. Its central location on Bascom Hill, adjacent to other iconic buildings like Bascom Hall and South Hall, contributes to its prominence within the university's architectural landscape.

North Hall is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its enduring presence on campus represents a significant chapter in the University of Wisconsin-Madison's history, particularly regarding the education of women and the development of academic programs. It continues to be utilized for academic purposes, housing classrooms and offices.
