New Hope River (Haw River tributary)

The New Hope River is a river located in the Piedmont region of North Carolina, United States. It is a major tributary of the Haw River, contributing significantly to the water flow of that larger river system. The New Hope River's watershed encompasses portions of Orange, Durham, and Chatham counties.

The river is impounded by the B. Everett Jordan Lake (often called Jordan Lake), a large reservoir managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Jordan Lake serves multiple purposes including flood control, water supply, recreation, and fish and wildlife conservation. The New Hope River is the primary source of water flowing into Jordan Lake.

Prior to the construction of Jordan Lake, the New Hope River was known as the New Hope Creek. The river's course and surrounding land have been significantly altered by the creation of the lake.
