Murphy's Law (band)

Murphy's Law is an American hardcore punk band from New York City, formed in 1982. They are known for their humorous lyrics, energetic live performances, and significant influence on the New York hardcore scene.

The band was originally fronted by Jimmy G (Jimmy Gestapo), the only constant member throughout their various lineups. Early members included Brendan Thomson (guitar), Pete Hines (bass), and Chuck Valle (drums). Their sound is characterized by a raw, aggressive energy combined with a sense of humor often missing in other hardcore bands of the era.

Murphy's Law released several albums and EPs throughout their career, including their self-titled debut album Murphy's Law (1986), Back With a Bong (1989), The Best of Times (1991), and Dedicated (1996). Their music frequently addresses topics such as drinking, fighting, and the general absurdities of everyday life.

The band has toured extensively throughout the United States and internationally, sharing the stage with numerous other influential punk and hardcore bands. While the lineup has shifted over the years, Jimmy G has remained the driving force behind Murphy's Law, ensuring the band's continued presence in the hardcore scene. Despite periods of inactivity, Murphy's Law has consistently reunited for shows and tours, maintaining a dedicated fanbase.

Their influence can be seen in many subsequent hardcore punk bands, and they are considered one of the cornerstones of the New York hardcore movement.
