Msoura
Msoura is an archeological site located in northern Morocco, approximately 15 kilometers south of Asilah. It is known for its massive circular stone enclosure, often referred to as a megalithic monument. The enclosure measures approximately 167 meters in diameter and originally consisted of 167 standing stones surrounding a central tumulus.
The exact purpose and origin of Msoura are not definitively known, leading to various theories and interpretations. Some researchers suggest a link to pre-Roman Berber cultures, possibly serving as a royal mausoleum or a sacred space for ritual ceremonies. Other theories propose connections to astronomical alignments or other symbolic functions.
The site has suffered from significant deterioration over time. Many of the stones are damaged or missing, and the central tumulus has been disturbed. Despite this, Msoura remains a significant archaeological site, attracting researchers and visitors interested in the ancient history of the region. Archaeological excavations and studies continue to be conducted at the site in an effort to better understand its construction, purpose, and cultural context.
