Military Police (Armenia)
The Military Police of Armenia (ռազմական ոստիկանություն) is a law enforcement agency within the Armenian Armed Forces. Its primary responsibilities include maintaining law and order within the military, investigating crimes committed by military personnel, regulating military traffic, providing security for military installations, and enforcing military regulations. The Military Police also plays a role in escorting military convoys and protecting high-ranking military officials.
The organizational structure of the Armenian Military Police is headed by a Chief of Military Police, typically a high-ranking officer. The force is divided into regional units responsible for specific geographical areas. Military Police officers are generally armed and have the authority to apprehend, detain, and investigate suspected offenders within the military jurisdiction.
The legal basis for the Armenian Military Police's authority and operations is defined by Armenian law, specifically laws pertaining to the armed forces and law enforcement. It cooperates with other law enforcement agencies in Armenia, including the civilian police, in cases involving military personnel or when required to maintain national security. The Military Police also provides support to the Ministry of Defence in various aspects of security and law enforcement.
