Mewstone
The Mewstone is a type of small, rocky island or sea stack, often located near a larger landmass. The term is generally used to describe a prominent, isolated rock formation rising from the sea, shaped by wave action and weathering. "Mewstone" often derives from the presence of seabirds, particularly gulls (also known as "mews"), which commonly nest on these isolated formations. Mewstones can be navigational hazards and are often marked on nautical charts. They play a role in marine ecosystems, providing habitat for seabirds and marine life.
