HD 68402

HD 68402 is a yellow-white dwarf star located approximately 50 parsecs (163 light-years) away in the constellation Lynx. It is a main-sequence star, meaning it is currently fusing hydrogen into helium in its core.

HD 68402 is similar in size and temperature to our Sun, but slightly more massive and luminous. Its spectral type is F8V. It is known to host a substellar companion, specifically a brown dwarf, designated HD 68402 b.

The discovery of HD 68402 b was made using radial velocity measurements, which detect the wobble of a star caused by the gravitational pull of an orbiting object. HD 68402 b has a minimum mass of around 18 times that of Jupiter and an orbital period of roughly 1000 days.

Because it is relatively bright and nearby, HD 68402 has been the subject of various astronomical studies aimed at characterizing its properties and the nature of its brown dwarf companion. It is of interest to astronomers studying exoplanets and the formation of planetary systems.
