Max Jaffa

Max Jaffa (1911 – 1991) was a British violinist, bandleader, and broadcaster. He was best known for leading the Max Jaffa Orchestra, which performed light classical music, popular tunes, and selections from musicals, primarily at the Spa Grand Hall in Scarborough, England, for over 30 years. His orchestra also achieved considerable popularity through regular broadcasts on BBC Radio.

Born in Berlin, Germany, to Jewish parents, Jaffa moved to Britain with his family in the 1930s to escape the rising Nazi regime. He initially worked in London before establishing himself in Scarborough.

Jaffa's style was characterized by its accessibility and melodic charm. He played a key role in popularizing light music and providing entertainment to a wide audience. His orchestra's performances were a staple of British seaside entertainment for many years. After retiring from his full-time role in Scarborough, Jaffa continued to perform and record music until his death. He is remembered as a significant figure in British light music and a beloved entertainer.
