Matt Wagner (baseball)
Matthew John Wagner (born December 30, 1976) is a former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Philadelphia Phillies and Boston Red Sox.
Wagner was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 3rd round of the 1995 MLB draft. He made his major league debut with the Phillies on June 18, 1999. Primarily a relief pitcher, Wagner was known for his sinkerball. He spent parts of five seasons with the Phillies, compiling a record of 6-13 with a 4.75 ERA.
In July 2003, Wagner was traded to the Boston Red Sox. He appeared in only 11 games for the Red Sox before being released. After his release from the Red Sox, Wagner played in the minor leagues before retiring from professional baseball.
