Martha Johnson (singer)

Martha Johnson is a Canadian singer, best known as the lead vocalist and songwriter for the new wave band Martha and the Muffins (later known as M + M).

Born in Toronto, Ontario, Johnson formed Martha and the Muffins with Mark Gane in the late 1970s. The band achieved international success with their debut single, "Echo Beach," in 1980. Johnson's distinctive vocals and songwriting style were integral to the band's sound.

Following the band's evolution and name change to M + M, Johnson continued to be the central figure. While M + M disbanded in the late 1980s, Martha and the Muffins reunited periodically for performances and recordings.

Beyond her work with Martha and the Muffins, Johnson has pursued solo projects and collaborations. She has also been involved in film and television scoring. Her contributions to Canadian music have been recognized through awards and nominations. Johnson continues to be active in the music industry.
