Mark Green (Tennessee politician)

Mark Edward Green (born November 8, 1964) is an American politician, physician, and veteran serving as the U.S. Representative for Tennessee's 7th congressional district since 2019. He is a member of the Republican Party.

Prior to entering Congress, Green served in the Tennessee State Senate, representing the 22nd district from 2013 to 2019. He previously served as an officer in the U.S. Army, including service as a flight surgeon with the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment during the Persian Gulf War and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Green holds a medical degree from the University of Kentucky and founded AlignMD, a healthcare consulting company. He has also authored books, including "A Night With Saddam" detailing his experiences interrogating Saddam Hussein.

In 2017, President Donald Trump nominated Green to serve as Secretary of the Army, but Green withdrew his nomination following criticism of his past statements on LGBTQ issues and other controversial topics.
