Marcus Thornton (basketball, born 1987)

Marcus Thornton (born August 5, 1987) is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for LSU, where he earned Southeastern Conference (SEC) Player of the Year honors in 2009.

Thornton was selected by the Miami Heat with the 43rd overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft, but his draft rights were immediately traded to the New Orleans Hornets (later Pelicans). He played for the Hornets/Pelicans for two and a half seasons before being traded to the Sacramento Kings in 2011. He also played for the Brooklyn Nets, Boston Celtics, and Phoenix Suns.

Known primarily as a scorer, Thornton was a streaky shooter capable of hitting difficult shots. He primarily played shooting guard and small forward during his NBA career.

Following his NBA career, Thornton played professionally overseas.
