Lidbeckia
Lidbeckia is a genus of flowering plants in the family Asteraceae, commonly known as the aster or sunflower family. These plants are native to South Africa. They are characterized by their daisy-like flower heads composed of ray florets and disc florets.
Lidbeckia species are typically perennial herbs or subshrubs. Their leaves are often divided or lobed. The flower heads are solitary or arranged in corymbs. The involucral bracts are arranged in several series. The ray florets are usually yellow or white, while the disc florets are yellow or orange. The fruit is an achene.
Lidbeckia species are found in a variety of habitats in South Africa, including grasslands, fynbos, and rocky slopes. They are adapted to the region's Mediterranean climate, which is characterized by hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters.
The genus is named in honor of Anders Jahan Retzius's wife, Lidbeck.
