Liberal People's Party (Denmark)
The Liberal People's Party (Danish: Liberal Alliance, formerly Ny Alliance (New Alliance)), is a classical liberal and libertarian political party in Denmark. It was founded on May 7, 2007, by Naser Khader, Anders Samuelsen, and Gitte Seeberg, initially under the name New Alliance.
The party advocates for significant tax cuts, deregulation, reduced immigration, and greater individual freedom. Its core ideology is based on free market principles and a smaller government. Liberal Alliance generally supports Denmark's membership in the European Union but often pushes for reforms within the EU structure.
The party has experienced fluctuating levels of electoral success since its founding. It has participated in coalition governments and has also served in opposition. The leadership of the party has changed several times since its inception. Key figures in the party's history, besides the founders, include Anders Samuelsen (who later became Minister for Foreign Affairs) and Alex Vanopslagh, the current leader.
Liberal Alliance is typically positioned on the right-wing of the Danish political spectrum, although its social liberalism often distinguishes it from more traditional conservative parties. It aims to appeal to voters who are economically liberal and prioritize individual liberty. The party's voter base consists of entrepreneurs, business owners, and individuals who favor a smaller role for the state.
