Macross 7

Macross 7 is a 1994-1995 Japanese anime television series. It is a direct sequel to the 1982 anime Super Dimension Fortress Macross and part of the larger Macross franchise. Macross 7 follows the exploits of the rock band Fire Bomber, led by the energetic and musically-driven Basara Nekki, as they attempt to communicate with a mysterious alien force, the Protodeviln, through their music.

Set in the year 2045, the series takes place aboard the Macross 7 colonization fleet, a massive city-sized spacecraft searching for habitable planets. While exploring, the fleet encounters the Protodeviln, powerful beings who feed on the "spiritia" (life force) of living beings. Conventional weapons prove ineffective against them. Basara Nekki believes his music can reach the Protodeviln and end the conflict peacefully, often inserting himself into battles to sing.

The anime is notable for its focus on music as a central plot element and the prominent role of the rock band Fire Bomber. Its themes include the power of music, communication, understanding, and the importance of life force. The series spawned several OVAs (Original Video Animations) and a movie continuation, Macross 7: The Galaxy's Calling Me! which further explored the characters and the conflict with the Protodeviln.
