Li Tao (Five Dynasties)
Li Tao (李濤, died 930), courtesy name Jizhong (季中), was a prominent Chinese official during the late Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties period, specifically during the Later Liang. He served as a chancellor under Emperor Taizu (Zhu Wen) of the Later Liang.
Li Tao was known for his literary talent and served in various official posts before rising to prominence. He was often involved in drafting imperial edicts and declarations. He eventually achieved the position of Tong Zhongshu Menxia Pingzhangshi (同中書門下平章事), a title denoting a chancellor.
During his tenure as chancellor, Li Tao was known for his pragmatism and willingness to advise the emperor on practical matters of governance. However, he was also criticized for being somewhat opportunistic and willing to align himself with those in power.
Following the death of Emperor Taizu and the subsequent reign of Emperor Mo (Zhu Youzhen), Li Tao continued to serve in the imperial court. He eventually died in 930. While not considered one of the most influential chancellors of the period, Li Tao played a significant role in the Later Liang administration.
