Leselidze (town)

Leselidze was a town located on the Black Sea coast in Abkhazia, Georgia. It was situated near the border with Russia. The town gained prominence as a resort destination during the Soviet era.

Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the subsequent conflict in Abkhazia in the early 1990s, Leselidze came under the control of Abkhazian authorities. The Georgian population largely fled or were expelled during the conflict. The town's name was officially changed by Abkhazian authorities to Gyachrypsh (Гячрыпш).

The status of Abkhazia itself remains disputed. Most countries recognize Abkhazia as part of Georgia, while Russia and a few other nations recognize it as an independent state. Therefore, while officially known as Gyachrypsh within Abkhazia, the name Leselidze may still be used in some contexts and by some people, particularly in Georgia and internationally, when referring to the location.
