Leeds—Grenville—Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes (federal electoral district)
Leeds—Grenville—Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes is a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada. It has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 2015.
Geography:
The riding encompasses the counties of Leeds and Grenville, as well as a portion of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, including the municipalities of: Athens, Augusta, Brockville, Elizabethtown-Kitley, Front of Yonge, Gananoque, Leeds and the Thousand Islands, Merrickville-Wolford, North Grenville, Rideau Lakes, and Smiths Falls. The riding is located in Eastern Ontario along the St. Lawrence River. It includes a significant portion of the Thousand Islands archipelago and the Rideau Lakes region, hence its name.
History:
The electoral district was created in 2012 from parts of the former ridings of Leeds—Grenville and Lanark—Frontenac—Lennox and Addington following the 2012 federal electoral boundaries redistribution. Its first election was the Canadian federal election of 2015.
Demographics:
The population is largely rural with significant pockets of population concentrated in the towns and cities within the riding. Agriculture, tourism, and manufacturing are key economic sectors.
