Gárdonyi

Gárdonyi Géza (1863-1922) was a renowned Hungarian writer, novelist, playwright, journalist, and poet. He is best known for his historical novels and patriotic works that have had a lasting impact on Hungarian literature and national identity.

He is particularly famous for his novel Egri csillagok (Stars of Eger), a historical novel depicting the heroic defense of Eger castle against the Ottoman Turks in 1552. This novel is a staple of Hungarian school curricula and is widely regarded as a national epic. Other notable works include Isten rabjai (God's Captives), a historical novel about the early Christian era in Hungary, and numerous short stories, plays, and journalistic pieces.
