Larry McCarthy (sports administrator)

Larry McCarthy is an Irish sports administrator, currently serving as the Uachtarán (President) of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA).

McCarthy, a native of Bishopstown, County Cork, Ireland, has been involved with the GAA for many years at various levels. Prior to his election as Uachtarán, he held numerous administrative positions, contributing significantly to the organization's development and strategic planning. He served as chairman of the GAA's Finance Committee and the Central Council's Games Administration Committee.

His election as Uachtarán of the GAA took place at the GAA Congress in February 2020, succeeding John Horan. His term officially commenced in 2021 and is a three-year tenure. During his presidency, McCarthy has focused on issues such as promoting Gaelic games at the grassroots level, improving facilities, addressing the financial sustainability of the association, and continuing the integration of the GAA with the Camogie Association and the Ladies Gaelic Football Association. He has also navigated the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, including the suspension and rescheduling of competitions.
