Larry Cohen (union leader)
Larry Cohen (born 1949) is an American labor leader. He served as the president of the Communications Workers of America (CWA) from 2005 to 2015.
Cohen began his career with CWA in 1974, working as a staff representative. He rose through the ranks, holding various positions including district vice president. He was elected president of the CWA in 2005, succeeding Morton Bahr.
As president, Cohen focused on organizing, political action, and building alliances with other labor unions and community groups. He advocated for workers' rights, economic justice, and fair trade policies. A key priority for Cohen was expanding CWA’s membership through aggressive organizing campaigns, particularly in the telecommunications, media, and airline industries.
During his tenure, Cohen played a significant role in major labor disputes and political campaigns. He was a vocal critic of corporate power and policies that he believed harmed workers. He was also a prominent supporter of progressive political causes and candidates.
Following his departure from the presidency of CWA, Cohen has remained active in labor and political advocacy. He continues to speak out on issues related to workers' rights and economic inequality.
