L Line (Los Angeles Metro)
The L Line, formerly known as the Gold Line, is a light rail line in the Los Angeles Metro Rail system serving Los Angeles County, California. The line is operated by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro).
The L Line historically consisted of two distinct segments that were connected in 2024: a northeast segment running from APU/Citrus College in Irwindale to Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles, and an eastside segment running from Union Station to Atlantic station in East Los Angeles. These segments were connected via the Regional Connector Transit Project, a tunnel under Downtown Los Angeles.
As of 2024, with the completion of the Regional Connector, the L Line runs from APU/Citrus College in Irwindale through Downtown Los Angeles and continues to Long Beach via a transfer to the A Line (formerly the Blue Line) at the 7th St/Metro Center station. The line provides service to various neighborhoods and destinations including Pasadena, Little Tokyo, Arts District, East Los Angeles, and Downtown Los Angeles. It offers connections to other Metro Rail lines and bus services, facilitating regional transportation throughout Los Angeles County.
The L Line utilizes light rail vehicles and operates primarily at street level, with some elevated and underground sections. Service is typically provided from early morning to late night, with reduced frequency during off-peak hours.
