Popstars (Brazilian TV series)

Popstars was a Brazilian reality television series that aired on SBT (Sistema Brasileiro de Televisão) from 2002 to 2003. Based on the British format Popstars, the show documented the audition and selection process to form a new musical group.

The first season in 2002 aimed to create a female pop group. Thousands of aspiring singers auditioned, and the show followed the contestants through various stages of training, including singing, dancing, and stage presence. In the end, five finalists were chosen to form the group Rouge. Rouge went on to become one of the most successful girl groups in Brazilian music history, achieving significant album sales and radio airplay.

The second season in 2003 focused on creating a male pop group. Following a similar format to the first season, the show auditioned male singers and documented their journey. The chosen finalists formed the group Br'oz. Br'oz also achieved notable success, although their popularity was not as enduring as Rouge's.

The Popstars series was significant in Brazil for its role in popularizing the reality talent show format and for launching the careers of Rouge and Br'oz. It had a considerable impact on the Brazilian music scene, demonstrating the potential for television to discover and promote new musical talent. Following the success of Popstars, numerous other singing competition shows were produced in Brazil.
