Koh Kong (island)

Koh Kong is the largest island in Cambodia. It is located in the Gulf of Thailand, approximately 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) off the coast of Koh Kong Province, sharing the same name. The island is largely undeveloped, characterized by pristine beaches, dense jungle, mangrove forests, and a mountainous interior.

Its landscape is diverse, featuring waterfalls, rivers, and a variety of flora and fauna. The island is sparsely populated, with small fishing villages and limited tourist infrastructure compared to other Southeast Asian islands.

Tourism on Koh Kong island is generally focused on eco-tourism and adventure activities, such as trekking, kayaking, and exploring the island's natural environment. Access to the island is typically via boat from the mainland town of Koh Kong (also known as Krong Koh Kong).

Due to its relatively untouched nature, Koh Kong island offers visitors a glimpse into a less developed and more authentic Southeast Asian island experience. The island's future development remains a subject of discussion, balancing the need for economic growth with the desire to preserve its natural beauty and unique ecosystem.
