Kinross and Western Perthshire (UK Parliament constituency)
Kinross and Western Perthshire is a constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first-past-the-post system of election.
The constituency was created for the 1983 general election, largely from the former Kinross and West Perthshire constituency. Since its inception, the constituency has generally been a politically competitive seat, often changing hands between the Conservative, Liberal Democrat, and Scottish National Party (SNP).
Geographically, Kinross and Western Perthshire covers a diverse area encompassing the historic county of Kinross-shire and a portion of western Perthshire. This includes rural areas, lochs, and small towns. The economy of the region is varied, encompassing agriculture, tourism, and some light industry.
The boundaries have been subject to periodic review and alteration by the Boundary Commission for Scotland to ensure relatively equal electorate sizes across constituencies. The current boundaries are those defined for the 2005 general election. Future boundary reviews may result in further modifications.
