Kenny Moore (runner)

Kenny Moore (born December 1, 1943) is an American former long-distance runner, journalist, and actor. He is best known for his athletic accomplishments, including competing in the marathon at the 1968 and 1972 Olympic Games, as well as his insightful and influential writing for Sports Illustrated.

Moore was a standout athlete at the University of Oregon, where he was coached by the legendary Bill Bowerman. He excelled in cross country and track, setting American records and helping the Oregon Ducks achieve significant success. After college, he continued to train and compete at a high level, focusing primarily on the marathon.

His participation in the 1968 Mexico City Olympics marked his first major international appearance. He finished 14th in the marathon. In the 1972 Munich Olympics, he finished 4th, narrowly missing out on a medal. He also held the American record in the marathon multiple times.

Following his running career, Moore transitioned to journalism, becoming a staff writer for Sports Illustrated.
