Junkyard (band)
Junkyard is an American hard rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1987. Known for their gritty, blues-infused rock and roll sound, they draw heavily from influences such as AC/DC, ZZ Top, and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
The band's initial lineup consisted of vocalist David Roach, guitarists Brian Baker (formerly of Minor Threat and Dag Nasty) and Chris Gates, bassist Todd Muscat, and drummer Patrick Muzingo. This lineup recorded their self-titled debut album, Junkyard, released in 1989 on Geffen Records. The album spawned the singles "Simple Man," "Hollywood," and "Blooze."
Junkyard toured extensively in support of their debut, opening for acts such as Lynyrd Skynyrd and Social Distortion. Despite critical acclaim and a growing fanbase, their second album, Sixes, Sevens & Nines, released in 1991, failed to achieve the same level of commercial success.
The band subsequently went on hiatus, with members pursuing other musical projects. Brian Baker joined Bad Religion in 1994, a position he continues to hold.
Junkyard reunited in the late 1990s and have continued to perform and record sporadically since. In 2017, they released High Water, their first studio album in over 25 years, to positive reviews. This album featured a lineup consisting of David Roach, Tim Mosher, Todd Muscat, Jimmy James, and Ben Woods.
Despite periods of inactivity, Junkyard retains a dedicated following and is recognized for their contributions to the late 1980s/early 1990s hard rock scene.
