Josh Hancock

Josh Hancock (April 11, 1978 – April 29, 2007) was an American professional baseball pitcher who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Boston Red Sox, Cincinnati Reds, Florida Marlins, and St. Louis Cardinals. He was known for his sinkerball and his ability to induce ground balls.

Hancock was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 5th round of the 1998 MLB draft and made his major league debut for them in 2002. He was traded to the Cincinnati Reds in 2004. After short stints with the Florida Marlins and a return to the Reds, he was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals in 2006.

With the Cardinals, Hancock became a valuable member of the bullpen, helping the team win the 2006 World Series. He pitched effectively in the postseason, contributing to the Cardinals' championship run.

Tragically, Hancock died in a car accident in St. Louis in April 2007, shortly after pitching in a game against the San Diego Padres. His death was mourned by his teammates, the Cardinals organization, and baseball fans across the country. He was 29 years old.
