Johnny Carver (musician)
Johnny Carver (born January 7, 1940, Indianola, Mississippi) is an American country music singer and guitarist. He is best known for his string of Top 40 hits in the 1960s and 1970s.
Carver's career began in the early 1960s, performing in local clubs. He signed with Imperial Records in 1966 and released his first single, "Love Me." While this wasn't a major hit, it paved the way for future success. In the late 1960s, he moved to ABC Records.
His breakthrough came in 1969 with "You're Still You," which reached the Top 20 on the Billboard country charts. Throughout the early to mid-1970s, Carver enjoyed a consistent run of hits, including "Lily of the Valley" (1972), "Sweet Wine" (1972), "I'm Just Me" (1973), "After You" (1974), and "No One's Gonna Hurt You Anymore" (1974). These songs solidified his place as a prominent figure in country music during that era.
Carver's style often incorporated elements of pop music, making his songs accessible to a wider audience. He continued to record and perform throughout the later decades, although his chart success waned. He remains a respected figure in country music history for his contributions during a significant period of the genre's evolution.
