John Trelawny (died 1680)
John Trelawny (died 1680) was a Cornish politician and landowner who served as a Member of Parliament for several Cornish constituencies during the reigns of Charles I and Charles II.
Trelawny's parliamentary career began in 1625 when he was elected to represent East Looe. He later represented Liskeard (1628-1629), and Mitchell (1640). During the English Civil War, he sided with the Royalist cause, resulting in his being excluded from Parliament during the Interregnum.
Following the Restoration of the monarchy in 1660, Trelawny returned to political life. He was elected MP for Liskeard again in 1661 and continued to serve in Parliament until his death in 1680.
He was related to a prominent Cornish family, the Trelawnys of Trelawne. His descendants included Sir John Trelawny, 3rd Baronet, one of the Seven Bishops whose imprisonment in 1688 precipitated the Glorious Revolution. He was buried at Pelynt, Cornwall.
