Fiona Hall (artist)
Fiona Hall (born 1953) is an Australian artist working in a variety of media including sculpture, installation, photography, and garden design. She is known for her intricate and thought-provoking works that often explore themes of ecology, globalisation, politics, and human impact on the environment.
Hall represented Australia at the 56th Venice Biennale in 2015 with her exhibition Wrong Way Time, a multifaceted installation that addressed themes of global politics, economics, and environmental destruction. This work, like much of her oeuvre, incorporates meticulous craftsmanship and a keen attention to detail.
Her early career focused on photography, before expanding into three-dimensional works utilizing materials such as sardine cans, bread tags, and dollar bills. These repurposed objects are often transformed into meticulously crafted forms, drawing attention to consumerism, cultural appropriation, and the fragility of the natural world.
Hall has exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally, and her work is held in numerous public and private collections, including the National Gallery of Australia, the Art Gallery of New South Wales, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia. She is considered one of Australia's leading contemporary artists.
