John Patrick (basketball)
John Patrick (born November 2, 1968) is an American professional basketball coach. He is currently the head coach of the Riesen Ludwigsburg in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL), the top professional league in Germany.
Patrick played college basketball at Stanford University from 1987 to 1990. After graduation, he played professionally in Europe for several years.
Patrick began his coaching career in 1998 as an assistant coach for the University of California, Riverside. He then served as an assistant coach for the German team BG Karlsruhe. His first head coaching job was with the Crailsheim Merlins in 2001. He subsequently coached the Göttingen team and later the Japanese team, Toyota Alvark Tokyo.
Patrick is known for his defensive-minded coaching style and his ability to develop young players. He has achieved considerable success in the BBL with Riesen Ludwigsburg, leading the team to several playoff appearances and a Basketball Champions League Final Four. He is recognized as one of the most respected coaches in German basketball.
