John McDonald (Western Australian politician)

John McDonald (born 1945) is an Australian politician who served as a member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly from 1996 to 2008, representing the electorate of Moore. He was initially elected as a Liberal Party member but later became an independent.

McDonald's political career was marked by his strong advocacy for regional issues and his willingness to cross party lines. He held various shadow ministerial portfolios during his time in opposition. In 2005, he resigned from the Liberal Party following disagreements with the party leadership. As an independent, he continued to represent his electorate until his retirement from state politics in 2008. Prior to entering state parliament, McDonald was involved in local government. His contributions to the Moore electorate included advocating for improved infrastructure and services for its constituents.
