Peter Burrell (1724–1775)
Peter Burrell (1724 – 6 April 1775) was a British politician and surveyor-general. He belonged to a prominent Sussex family, the Burrells of Beckenham, Kent.
He served as Member of Parliament for Haslemere from 1741 to 1768 and for Dover from 1768 until his death. He held various government positions, including Deputy Paymaster of the Forces.
Burrell is perhaps best known for his role as Surveyor-General of Crown Lands. He was responsible for overseeing the management and administration of royal properties.
He married Priscilla Bertie, Baroness Willoughby de Eresby (1761), daughter of Peregrine Bertie, 2nd Duke of Ancaster and Kesteven, and they had several children, including Peter Burrell, 1st Baron Gwydyr, and Priscilla, who married Lord Willoughby de Eresby. Through his children, Peter Burrell was the ancestor of several prominent figures in British society. He died in 1775 and was succeeded in his estates by his son.
