John Makin (politician)
John Makin (born December 21, 1955) is a former Australian politician. He was a Labor Party member of the Australian Senate for South Australia from 2007 to 2014.
Makin was born in Adelaide and worked as a union official before entering politics. Prior to his Senate career, he was the Secretary of the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees Association (SDA) in South Australia, a powerful union within the Labor movement.
He was elected to the Senate at the 2007 federal election. During his time in parliament, Makin served on various Senate committees, including the Senate Standing Committee on Economics and the Senate Select Committee on Fuel and Energy. He was known for his advocacy on issues related to industrial relations, retail workers' rights, and consumer protection.
Makin retired from the Senate at the 2013 federal election, with his term officially ending in 2014.
