John Campbell (blues guitarist)

John Campbell (November 16, 1952 – June 13, 1993) was an American blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter known for his intense, raw, and often dark performances. He combined elements of Delta blues, electric blues, and rock and roll, crafting a unique and powerful sound.

Campbell was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, and began playing guitar as a teenager. He was influenced by blues legends such as Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, and John Lee Hooker. He honed his skills playing in local bars and clubs before relocating to New York City in the 1980s.

His debut album, A Man and His Blues, was released in 1988 and showcased his distinctive slide guitar playing and soulful vocals. He gained wider recognition with his critically acclaimed 1991 album, One Believer, which featured a mix of original compositions and blues standards. Howlin Mercy, released posthumously in 1993, further solidified his reputation as a significant figure in contemporary blues.

Campbell's music often explored themes of pain, loss, and redemption. His intense stage presence and emotionally charged performances captivated audiences. He toured extensively, sharing the stage with renowned musicians such as Stevie Ray Vaughan and Albert Collins.

Despite his relatively short career, John Campbell left a lasting impact on the blues scene.
