Joe Cabot
Joe Cabot is a fictional character appearing in Quentin Tarantino's 1992 crime film, Reservoir Dogs. He is portrayed by Lawrence Tierney. Cabot is a seasoned, ruthless criminal who organizes and funds the diamond heist that forms the core plot of the film. He is characterized by his gruff demeanor, no-nonsense attitude, and long history in the criminal underworld.
Cabot selects a group of seasoned criminals, none of whom know each other's real names, to execute the robbery. He assigns each member a color-coded alias to maintain anonymity and operational security. He is the father of "Nice Guy" Eddie Cabot, who also plays a significant role in the operation and acts as Joe's second-in-command.
Despite his experience, Cabot's plan goes awry, leading to a violent confrontation within the warehouse where the surviving criminals regroup. The film reveals that the heist was likely compromised by an informant, leading Joe Cabot and his son, Eddie, to suspect one of the members is a rat.
Joe Cabot's role is pivotal in setting the stage for the film's central conflict and highlighting the themes of loyalty, betrayal, and the inherent mistrust within criminal enterprises. His death, along with that of his son, Eddie, marks a turning point in the escalating violence and ultimately contributes to the tragic conclusion of Reservoir Dogs.
