Marine One (fireboat)

Marine One is a fireboat operated by the Fire Department of New York City (FDNY). Commissioned in 2010, it is one of the FDNY's most advanced and capable fireboats, designed for both firefighting and search and rescue operations in New York Harbor and surrounding waterways. Marine One replaced the aging John J. Harvey in the primary response role and significantly enhanced the department's ability to combat fires on ships, waterfront structures, and even provide water supply to land-based units during major incidents.

The vessel is equipped with multiple water cannons capable of delivering tens of thousands of gallons of water per minute, sourced directly from the harbor. This allows for rapid and effective suppression of large-scale fires. Marine One is also outfitted with advanced navigation and communication systems, as well as equipment for dealing with hazardous materials incidents. Its crew consists of specially trained firefighters and marine engineers.

Beyond firefighting, Marine One plays a crucial role in maritime security and emergency response, including assisting with search and rescue missions and providing support during major weather events. Its presence ensures a high level of safety and protection for the port of New York and the surrounding communities.
