Jimulco

Jimulco is a small town and the name of the surrounding valley in the state of Coahuila, Mexico. It is located within the municipality of Torreón.

The Jimulco Valley is an important ecological area, recognized for its unique biodiversity and endemic species. The area is a protected natural reserve, officially designated as a Flora and Fauna Protection Area. The valley is characterized by its desert landscape, scrub vegetation, and the presence of springs and streams that support diverse plant and animal life. It is known for species such as the Bolsón tortoise ( Gopherus flavomarginatus), which is one of the largest land tortoises in North America and is critically endangered. Conservation efforts are focused on protecting the tortoise and its habitat from threats like habitat loss, poaching, and unsustainable agriculture.
