Jim Johnstone (poet)

Jim Johnstone (born 1981) is a Scottish poet, editor, and critic. He is known for his formal precision, use of historical and literary allusions, and a recurring interest in the relationship between technology, the natural world, and human experience.

Johnstone studied at the University of Stirling and the University of Strathclyde. He has published several collections of poetry, including The Lizard Cage (Salt, 2006), Paranoia Island (Salt, 2008), Dry Stone Work (Salt, 2014), and Jigsaw Memory (Shearsman Books, 2023). His work has appeared in numerous literary journals and anthologies.

In addition to his poetry, Johnstone has worked extensively as an editor. He was formerly the editor of Edinburgh Review and has edited or co-edited several other publications, including Poetry Review. He is also a prominent critic, writing reviews and essays on contemporary poetry. Johnstone's critical work often focuses on Scottish poetry and the work of emerging poets.
