Jim Eyre (architect)
Jim Eyre (born 1945) is a British architect, known primarily for his work as a founding director of WilkinsonEyre, an architectural practice established in 1983.
Eyre studied architecture at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London. His early career involved working with Michael Hopkins.
WilkinsonEyre, under Eyre's direction alongside Chris Wilkinson until Wilkinson's death in 2021, has been responsible for a wide range of high-profile projects including:
- The Gateshead Millennium Bridge, a tilting pedestrian bridge across the River Tyne.
- The Cooled Conservatories at Gardens by the Bay in Singapore.
- The Dyson Headquarters in Malmesbury.
- The redevelopment of Battersea Power Station.
- The Mary Rose Museum in Portsmouth.
- The Crown Sydney, a hotel and casino complex in Australia.
Eyre's work has been recognised with numerous awards, including the RIBA Stirling Prize for the Gateshead Millennium Bridge in 2002 and for the Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham in 2001 (as part of WilkinsonEyre). He has lectured and taught widely. His architectural philosophy often emphasizes innovation, sustainability, and a contextual approach to design.
