Jim Cannon (footballer, born 1953)

Jim Cannon (born 10 September 1953 in Govan, Glasgow) is a Scottish former professional footballer who played primarily as a defender.

Cannon is best known for his long and distinguished career with Crystal Palace, where he captained the team for a significant period and is considered a club legend. He joined Crystal Palace in 1973 and remained with the club until 1988, making over 660 appearances in all competitions. He was a key figure in the Palace side that achieved promotion to the First Division in 1979.

Cannon was renowned for his tough tackling, leadership qualities, and commitment to the club. He also had spells with Dundee United, Albion Rovers, and ended his career with non-league Epsom & Ewell.

After retiring from professional football, Cannon remained involved in the sport, working in coaching and community roles.
